Pans' death scenes

A little grim, we know. But these are the animated scenes that we created for those moments in the game where Pan uses free will and decides not to take on a challenge. Not a pretty sight.

Promo items | Emma

These lovely items are just what we needed to compliment all the hard work that's gone into this game. We decided to promote a graphic novel of Peter Pan, aimed at the designer generation.

We designed a CD cover to house the game CD with a twist. We created the case with pop-up graphics from our game. Beautiful.
We also decided to create little cut-outs of the characters that can be added to the cd cover for one's own creative input.

What do designers covet more than most things? A moleskin. Yes it's no Macbook Pro but it is a must have item. So, we thought of personalizing it with Pan graphics and handing them out to promote the game and the book.

Another addition, a feather bookmark. We like.
Our other ideas: a short story booklet and a key chain. The booklet will consist of a few illustrations and explanations on how not to loose your shadow. Quirky and silly, and it will promote the game. We chose to make Pan key rings because the idea of severed body parts appeal to our originality-crazed market of designers.

Games and Graphics

Our game concepts are developing nicely. We're in the final stages of graphic development for each game and we like the look very much.

Here's a sneak peak of the card designs that will be used in the mix-and-match game when Pan visits the Indians.

The first three graphics are the items that Pan is rewarded with for solving a puzzle or challenge with each of the inhabitants of the island. The hook at the end is the object of a search when Pan visits the Pirates.

These scenes are the 'celebratory' scenes acknowledging that a challenge has been completed. They also show the player that they have won back a piece of Pan's shadow.

And... a little thank you screen at the end of the game, just to show Pan's appreciation.

Sneak Preview: Our Island

Finally, we get to show off the main stage of our game. Isn't it nice? We love the adventurous feel of the graphic style and we love the idea of this game coming together.

One of the scenes from our intro animation - Pan setting off to find his shadow.

Sneak Preview: Credits

Here's a sneak preview of the basic graphic style of the info graphics in our game.
We loved the idea of a scroll, bringing back memories of the pirate treasure
hunt maps we used to play with as kids.

This lovely idea here (by Emma) is our in-game promotion of the graphic novel 'Peter Pan'. It links the game to the sales pitch and gives the game-player a link to the site.

Character Development | Emma

The first stages of our character development. We love the flat vector, simplified style of the characters. It really keeps the visual style as uniform as possible. :)

Peter Pan

The Pirates. We love the little pirate boys.

The Mermaids. They are under development, but they already look awesome.

Our lone little indian. The rest of the indians are still being developed.
Tiger Lilly is going to look awesome.

Emma is in the process of fine-tuning the characters according to the suggestions put forward during our crit with the lecturers. After that she will be creating one or two differentiations in each character that we can use to create movement in our animations.

Game Plan | Georgia

The ever efficient multimedia expert, Georgia, has put together an overview of the game plan / storyboard. Us graphic designers seemed to understand the concept of a game plan but would never have figured it out like this.

Design style

Here are a few ideas that we submitted for the look and feel of our game.

Initially, we were super inspired by the game 'Limbo', a dark gloomy game that Georgia was familiar with. We thought the flat layers and limited colour added an emotional depth to the game. It also meant that our design wouldn't have to be as complex, but would need a lot of effort put into making the game a realistic experience.

Our second inspiration came from the illustration style of a Cartoon Network cartoon 'Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends'. We loved the idea of flat vectors and the quirky, often lopsided, drawing technique. We will put up more images sometime to show what inspired us in this regard.

We decided on a limited palette of colours, mostly tones of green, to compliment the layers and feeling of depth that we are aiming to achieve.

All our characters will be based on the characters in the book and will probably be loosely styled according to the Disney interpretation of the characters. The only thing that we are concerned about is twisting the squeaky clean image of Disney into a more dark and gloomy portrayal of the Peter Pan story.

Where to start? Our concept

Here we go.
We are finally getting a blog up and running...
Here's just a taste of our concept presentation and where we are headed.
We'll keep blogging as our design style and characters start developing. :)

The story concept is based on Peter Pan, but not on his adventures with the Darling children. We've decided to focus on his shadow. We want to create a game that takes you on an adventure where you have to solve problems in order to win back a piece of Pan's shadow.

The narrative was developed by Georgia and basically explains the process in which the game needs to be developed.
